My Fashion Week

This fashion week has been relocated to Lincoln Center in NYC and it is so much better. Ask anyone. I’m sure even the celebs who skip the lines would agree the new venue rocks. The setup under the ‘tent’ is the same. There’s the TRESemme lounge on one side, giving away free hair products and the Maybelline lounge on the other, giving out free makeup every few hours. There’s also a bar where you can get free drinks. I didn’t indulge. Fashion needs to be digested sober, in my opinion. This is not a party. And when I become a designer, I don’t want anyone drunk at my show. Imagine a buyer drunk-ordering 500 of a dress, only to call me the next day, saying she was drunk and to forget about it. No thanks!

One of the things that’s different this time around is the check-in system. They now email you a confirmation number and bar code that can be self-scanned for check-in. That means you get to skip the crazy line, waiting to check in. The system actually works extremely well. Another thing that’s different is that, now, they have REALLY comfy furniture hanging around the floor space so you don’t have to envy the guys up in the lounges their cushy seats. The venue itself is also bigger. There’s a beautiful fountain at the front, that is really just zen, as well as a nice outdoor space inside the building, for relaxing. Another major improvement? They added Diet Muscle Milk to the refrigerators. Perfection!

I’ve been trying to be diligent about taking pictures of the outfits I wear and I’ve done a so-so job of it. Here are a few of them, from the past few days.

This tank is from H&M for $5. The pants are from Strawberry. I got them for $20. The boots are from Shoegasm. I bought them when they were on sale during the hottest summer days for $60. This shot is from Sunday.

This picture was taken at the Kids Creative benefit on Wednesday. The top is from American Apparel, on sale for $15. The jeans are Jessica Simpson and are $49 (they were a gift) and the shoes are from Shoegasm. I got them on sale for $35. They are my most comfortable wedges. I LOVE them.

The jacket was $35 from H&M. The tank was $10 at Strawberry. The shorts are from H&M and were $25. The boots are from Daffy’s (only European boots can fit my legs) and cost $125. Note: When you find a closet staple, don’t be afraid to go past your budget for it. Shop cheap on trends, never staples. The legwarmers are H&M and were $15.

I’ve also been trying out this new fro do during fashion week and I really like it. I have oily skin so I only put a tiny bit of moisturizer in my hair after washing, then I let it be. I got the red lipstick that I’m trying out under the ‘tent’. Its Maybelline, from their latest Color Sensational line. I love it, so far. Clearly, right?

So that’s been my fashion week style. Coming up this week, I’m planning to see Eli Tahari, Bibhu Mohapatra, Dress Reform, Bright Young Things, Samantha Pleet, Althea Harper, Nanette Lepore and more….
