Guess what I did the other night……
For 2010, I decided to let loose a bit more and try things that I wouldn’t normally do. To be honest, I haven’t had much success talking myself into being more adventurous so far but June is as good a time as any to work on resolutions, so when I heard about this singles party, I figured, “Why not?” My friend told me about Singleandthecity.com, a dating company that caters to busy New Yorkers. They throw themed parties and invite the hottest singles to come, party and meet people. I found out about this party the day of. It was a “Rescue Me: Fireman Singles Party.” Which sane, single woman says no to firemen?
After signing up, I immediately had a mini freakout about what to wear. What do you wear to a singles party? I wanted to be cute but effortlessly so. I also needed to be comfortable, because, well, I just wasn’t in the mood to sacrifice for fashion (I know! Very weird for me..). I stopped by H&M on my way home from school and spent a good half hour perusing the racks. I was sorely disappointed. I know its summer but come on! How many denim shorts and summer dresses can a girl really take? I gave up and decided to (gasp) wear something I already have.
I ended up settling on a black sleeveless tank from Forever 21. This cost me less than $10 and fit comfortably. It didn’t ride up or down, just behaved like a nice tank should.
I paired this with black jeans from Strawberry. These I’ve had for so long that I don’t know how much they were. They’re been faithful to me, though, and I strongly believe every girl should have a pair of well-fitting black jeans. DKNY has similar jeans for around $50.
Even though its crazy hot in NY, I wanted to carry a jacket, in case I got cold so I threw on a black blazer and rolled up the sleeves. Ladies (and gents), do not leave the house without rolling up your sleeves! It adds an instant dash of casual cool to any look. Check out this version of my jacket from Zac Posen for Target.
After getting dressed, I realized that, as per usual, I was in head to toe black. I decided to lighten on the shoes and jewelry and went for these shoes by Anne Michelle. I bought them at Strawberry for $26.
I really believe that women should live in heels. I sometimes wear them to the grocery store. Heels always look sexy and can make legs look longer. I always feel strong in them.
So how did it go? Firstly, I went to just have fun. I’ve never been a dater. I’m a sucker for conversation so if I were going to pick one guy, it would have to be someone that was really intelligent and interesting, someone who would make me want to sit and talk to him for hours. There was an initial ice breaker, so I wasn’t stuck trying to make random conversation with strangers at the bar. We had a list of questions to ask them and a different fireman had to initial for each answer. Whoever came up with this for an ice-breaker….um, genius! Every single question started a convo. But I found myself wanting to keep moving until I met this one guy. We ended up taking the conversation all the way into dinner and drinks, after. Maybe this dating thing isn’t so bad after all…..If you’d like to check out the Single and the City site or sign up for one of the events, go to www.singleandthecity.com.

Definately agree with you on rolling up sleeves on the blazer. I don’t really wear blazers… don’t have many in my closet but it does add flair when rolled up
Thanks for coming out Tabitha!
If any single ladies want to check out the party pics add Amber Guesa as a friend on FB. Lots of HOT firemen in attendance! The next party will be in August.
